Team Mission

We secure members willing to serve God through service to our congregation, then present them to the congregation for election.

I will come down and speak with you there, and I will take some of the power of the Spirit that is on you and put it on them. They will share the burden of the people with you so that you will not have to carry it alone.  Numbers 11:17

The First Presbyterian Church of Lake Park has partnered with The Food Bank of Iowa to bring their Mobile Pantry to the church on the first Thursday of every other month starting October 6th. The pantry will be open from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. and is targeted for families who make 185% of the federal poverty level or less.

A mobile pantry is a farmer’s market style distribution targeted toward counties with a need for additional pantry service. Mobile pantries provide an additional strategy toward bridging the food assistance gap, specifically in rural counties in our service area, by providing an additional access point for food.

The mobile pantry program has two key focus areas:

  • The primary focus is to distribute fresh produce, protein, and non-perishable items to counties in our service area where pantry access does not exist or resources are very limited – particularly to our more rural areas.
  • Second is to spotlight communities where hunger needs are not being met to build awareness of the issue and hopefully lead to more permanent solutions.

Upcoming dates for the pantry are:

  • February 2, 2017
  • April 6, 2017
  • June 1, 2017
  • August 3, 2017

The Food Bank of Iowa is a private, charitable, not-for-profit organization committed to our mission of alleviating hunger through food distribution, partnership and education.

2016 Session Members: Front row (l-r): Diana Jacobsen, Lesleigh Wiese, Linda Nissen and Nancy Younie. Back row (l-r): Pastor Tim Harmon, Luke Harmon, Denise Lev, Andrew Clark and Steve Eggers. (Not pictured: Mark Byers)The session is the council of our congregation. It is composed of those elected to active service as ruling elders and all installed teaching elders. The pastor is the moderator of the Session and the Clerk of Session is the Secretary of the session. We are, however, more than a Board of Directors. We are charged with governing the congregation and guiding its witness to the sovereign activity of God so that our congregation becomes a community of faith, hope, love, and witness. We ensure that the Word of God is rightly proclaimed, that the sacraments are rightly administered and received, and that the covenant community is nurtured as disciples of Christ. (G-3.0201)

Ruling Elders, together with teaching elders, exercise leadership, government, spiritual discernment and discipline and have responsibilities for the life of a congregation (G-2.0301)

Ruling Elders are Ministers of Discernment and Governance

Teaching Elders are Ministers of Word and Sacrament

I urge the elders, tend the flock of God among you as the shepherds. Watch over it. Don't shepherd because you must but do it voluntarily and with love. Don't shepherd by lording it over them, but be examples to the flock. And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive a crown.

- I Peter 5: 1b-4
